Aberdeen Harbour Expansion ACCROPODE™ II project, UK: Two breakwaters in the process of being completed
These works started in 2017 and have been carried out by Van Oord and a number of national and local companies since then. Van Oord managed to complete the whole work on the south breakwater within 6 months without any diving assistance, using only the Echoscope on an excavator to check and confirm correct positioning. CLI provided technical assistance for the placement of almost 8 800 ACCROPODE™ II units of 8, 12, 16 m3. 400 ACCROPODE™ II units remain to be placed on the north breakwater. For the south breakwater, the last ACCROPODE™ II unit was laid in November 2021. As the maintenance walkway on the south breakwater is now complete, the remaining challenge to take up in December 2021 is to progress on the north breakwater's crest wall structure.
