Old Port of Bastia and seafront road - CORSICA : an ACCROPODE™ II and ECOPODE™ project
Old Port of Bastia and seafront road - CORSICA
The Collectivity of Corsica has appointed the NATALI & BUESA S.A.S consortium to rehabilitate the two breakwater of the Old Port of Bastia: The Dragon’s jetty and the Genoa Mole, including the installation of 2,000 ACCROPODE™ II blocks of 6m3 and 9 m3.
After several storms, the two breakwaters of the Old Port of Bastia had weaknesses in their armour. The works were carried out by sea, starting with the 150-metre Dragon’s Jetty, after an initial phase of extraction and removal of TETRAPODE blocks. The Old Port of Bastia is also an innovative project with the placement of 20 ECOPODE™ blocks underwater in order to study how fast the biodiversity develops on these macro-textured artificial blocks.
Provision of required technical elements for the good completion of the armour layer in accordance with the Contractor’s needs.
Special features of the project
- Interaction with breakwaters works in a still active port
- Deconstruction of the existing structure with the extraction of TETRAPODE blocks
- The use of ECOPODE™ blocks and the associated environmental monitoring
- The complexity of the implementation of the rock-breaking for the realisation of the feet berm
Hydraulic conditions
- Dragon's Jetty: 150 m
- Genoa Mole: 115 m
- Max. seabed depth (toe): -18 m MSL
- Top of the crest: +3.23 m MSL
Construction Aspect
Placing of the ACCROPODE™ II blocks takes place with a crane from a barge with the assistance of divers.
