Hong-Kong International Airport 3 runway system project - China
Hong Kong Airport has expanded to accommodate the 3rd new runway as well as new infrastructure. The construction of a 13,000 meter-long sea wall with an ACCROPODE™ armour layer made of 0.8 m3 and 2 m³ ACCROPODE™ blocks, protects the 650 hectares of the new extension facing the sea.

CLI developed a great understanding of the Contractor’s needs and applied a problem-solving mindset to this specific project.
The Compliance Certificate was delivered by CLI to attest that the installation of blocks is in accordance with the ACCROPODE™ I technique.
Special features of the project
CLI provided technical assistance and a Compliance Certificate for the installation of the ACCROPODE™ I blocks on the entire structure.
The monitoring and verification of the installation is done using a 3D model of the armour obtained on the basis of bathymetric and photogrammetric surveys during the construction.

- Max. seabed depth (toe): -2.2m
- Top of the crest: +6.80m
Construction Aspect
The breakwater was constructed using truss cranes from land.
