MAP TA PHUT INDUSTRIAL PORT DEVELOPMENT PROJECT PHASE 3 -THAILAND : an ACCROPODE ™ project
Map Ta Phut Industrial Port Development project Phase 3 – Thailand
Eastern Economic Corridor EEC, Thailand government and GULF have appointed ITALIAN-THAI DEVELOPMENT PUBLIC COMPANY LIMITED in order to build the revetment and breakwater protected with ACCROPODE™ I armour of Map Ta Phut Industrial Port Development project Phase 3, in Rayong Province, Thailand.
Map Ta Phut Industrial Port, Phase 3, in Rayong will help expand imports of raw materials for the petrochemical industry and bio-economy. It will also accommodate the growing volume of liquefied natural gas. The project consists in executing a 6 kilometres length revetment and a 1 kilometres rubble mound breakwater, all protected with ACCROPODE™ armour units using 1m3 unit, 2m3 units and 4m3 units. A 2D & 3D physical model test of the stability for the structure of the breakwater has been carried out in CSIR site laboratory in South Africa with the training assistance of CLI.
Provision of required technical elements for the good completion of the armour layer in accordance with the Contractor’s needs.
Special features of the project
- its impressive size with over 7km of armour,
- 2 basins in the laboratory were used to test the stability of the whole project
- its large number of ACCROPODE™ I blocks to be used, over 70,000 blocks,
- the junction with a caisson breakwater at the level of the roundhead with armour
- the junction with 4 jetties
Hydraulic conditions
- Revetment covered with armour: 6 km
- Rubble mound breakwater: 1 km
- Max. seabed depth (toe): -14 m MSL
- Top of the crest: +6.60 m MSL
Construction Aspect
A simultaneous installation of ACCROPODE™ I blocks by a crawler crane with several teams.
