Chancay Port multi-purpose Terminal, 1st Phase - Peru : an ACCROPODE™ project
Chancay Port multi-purpose Terminal, Peru , 1st phase - Peru
The CHECSAC-CCCC4TH consortium has been appointed as contractor by COSCO SHIPPING PORTS CHANCAY PERU S.A. to build the Chancay Multipurpose Port Terminal, in Peru. The offshore part of the project consists of the construction of a rubble-mound breakwater using ACCROPODE™ I armour units.
This new Port terminal project is seen as a critical investment to develop the port infrastructures of Peru, which will greatly increase the cargo handling capacity of the country and boost its regional economy. The project includes the construction of two bulk and general cargo sites (clean solids and liquid bulk) as well as two container areas. The marine protection works include the execution of a 2 678 m long primary breakwater which will require an approximate quantity of 25 700 ACCROPODE™ I armour units, representing a concrete volume of around 113 000 m3.
CLI developed a great understanding of the Contractor’s need and applied a problems solving mindset to this specific project.
Special features of the project
The project is highly exposed to long waves with high periods (swell) which has required specific laboratory testing and validation of the proposed design cross-section.
Hydraulic conditions
- Cumulated length of ACCROPODE™ I armour: 2 678 m
- Max. seabed depth (toe): - 15.50 m MLWS
- Top of the crest: +9.5m MLWS
- Design wave Hs: 4.10 mm; Tp: 20s
Construction Aspect
The fabrication of the blocks started in January 2022 and to date, approximately 50% of the blocks have been casted at a separate casting yard. The installation of the blocks started in July 2022 with the assistance of a crawler crane and a real-time 3D positioning system.
