Garachico Protection côtière, Tenerife - Espagne : un projet ECOPODE™ et ACCROPODE™

Garachico cosatal protection, Tenerife - Spain

This project included the construction of a protective structure along the coast road, near the village of Garachico in the north-western part of the island of Tenerife. The construction of the structure included the manufacture and installation of the ACCROPODE™ and ECOPODE™ units.

The 300 m-long structure was protected by an armour of 18 m3 ACCROPODE™ blocks and 5.7 m3 ECOPODE™ blocks on the upper berm. SOGREAH provided technical assistance to the contractor during the works and a specific technical assistance for the implementation of the brand new ECOPODE™ technique for the years 2001-2002.

The added value of CLI

CLI developed a great understanding of the Contractor’s need and applied a problems solving mindset to this specific project.

Special fetaures of the project

The ECOPODE™ technique was used for the first time, as the client put great emphasis on reducing the visual impact of this coastal protection structure on the surrounding environment.

Sogreah supplied the 8 ECOPODE™ formworks that were needed for the fabrication of the blocks. It also provided a specific technical assistance to implement this new technique.

  • Max. seabed depth (toe): -30.00 m MSL

  • Design wave Hs: 6.80 m

Construction aspect

In total, almost 1 040 blocks (641 ECOPODE™ blocks of 5.7 m3 and 399 ACCROPODE™ blocks of 18 m3) protect the TF1 42 road against swells.
