Dibba bulk terminal, E.A.U. : an ACCROPODE™ II & ACCROBERM™ I project

Dibba bulk terminal, U.A.E.: an ACCROPODE™ II & ACCROBERM™ I project

The Client Port of Fujairah has awarded the Contract to the CONTRACTOR BESIX-SIXCO for the project. The construction of the structure involves the manufacturing and placing of ACCROPODE™ II & ACCROBERM™ I units. The design of the project will be finalised by the DESIGNER appointed by CONTRACTOR.
The construction works include:

  • Extension of the main breakwater over a length of 315 m;
  • Construction of a reclamation area gained on the sea and protected at the tip by ACCROPODE™ II blocks.

The added value of CLI

CLI developed a great understanding of the Contractor’s need and applied a problems solving mindset to this specific project.
The first toe block solution was implemented to avoid the use of a rock toe mound.
The ACCROBERM™ I also offers other benefits, including:

  • Being an economical solution that is easy to implement,
  • Reducing the maritime footprint of the structures,
  • Ensuring a seamless integration into an environmentally sensitive site by offering eco-design possibilities to restore ecosystems or create new ones.

Special features of the project

Both the structures will be protected by 3m3 ACCROPODE™ II and ACCROBERM™ blocks. This is the first application of the ACCROBERM™ I unit.
The ACCROBERM™  I is designed to stabilise armour toes  where they are most exposed. Its excellent stability stems from its round truncated cone shape, its very low centre of gravity and its vents. These units alone can replace both the first row of ACCROPODE™ II units and the rockfill toe berm.

hydraulic conditions

  • Breakwater protected with ACCROPODE™ II & ACCROBERM™ I blocks : 350 m cumulated
  • Max. seabed depth (toe): -8.7 m
  • Top of the crest: +8.5

Construction aspect

The breakwater was built from land. More than 7500  ACCROPODE™ II and 88 ACCROBERM™ I blocks of 3 m3 were placed using cranes.
